This shipyard at Wallsend, which Charles Mitchell, a leading Tyneside shipbuilder, founded in 1873, changed management in 1880 and was renamed C. S. Swan and Hunter Ltd. When the Mauretania was launched here in 1906, Swan and Hunter was at the very forefront of the shipbuilding industry [JB].
