This is the only portrait by Wood in the gallery's collections. According to Hansons auctioneers, he was based in Kensington, first in Brompton Row from 1861 to 1863, and then in Brompton Road, where he had a photography, stationary, book-making and art publishing concern. Certainly "C.W. Wood" advertised "ALBUM PORTRAITS, full length or Vignette," as well as copies of plants, from the latter location in the Gardners' Chronicle of 1866 (p. 2; see below). — Jacqueline Banerjee
