The painting's concern with religion appears in its inclusion of typological imagery, for the artist wished to emphasize that the Lady turns away from precisely those kinds of images and subjects to which Hunt himself had devoted most of his own career. Such images, one must emphasize, are Hunt's addition to Tennyson.
