This study is for The Wise and Foolish Virgins exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1920 (The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool). Other studies exist including a group in the Usher Art Gallery, Lincoln. In the final work, Shannon modified the positions of the heads shown here, particularly the two uppermost ones.
