This study of a standing young woman in a yellow dress with a yellow-orange cap is for the figure to the right in the two-figure composition Topaz that Moore exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1879, no. 172. In Topaz, the woman's dress is modelled identically, but is a pale green colour and her cap is red. The model has her right arm around her female companion to the left. Moore worked on the composition for Topaz for at least two years. Moore later reused the pose of the model in his Study for Topaz for his painting Forget-me-nots that he exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1881. — Dennis T. Lanigan
