Morning on the Marsh. George Cockram (1861-1950). 1880s. Watercolour heightened with white; signed and inscribed on the artist's label 8 ¾ x 15 ⅛ inches. Reproduced courtesy of the Maas Gallery. Click on image to enlarge it.
The artist's label reads 'No.5 / Morning on the Marsh / George Cockram R.C.A / Rhos Neigr / Ty Croes / Anglesea. / £9.9.0'. The address given dates the watercolour to between 1894 and 1901, but it is possible to be more precise than this, since the title and price match exactly with one of Cockram's 1899 Liver Sketching Club exhibits. The watercolour is in its original R. Jackson frame, and the framing label reading Son rather than Sons, which confirms that it dates from before 1900. — Charles Nugent
