This depiction of the "sweet and serviceable" Enid is one of Brickdale's twenty-one illustrations for the Hodder & Stoughton edition of Tennyson's Idylls of the King, 1911. Composed and demure, with a pure white wimple, richly coloured gown and cape, and in an enclosed garden with doves and a dove-cote nearby, Enid is characteristic of Brickdale's female subjects — probably according to her remit here, rather than expressing her own view of women's potential.
