One of a pair either side of the altar, woven for Ebenezer Jordan in memory of his parents. This one is on the left. Each is one part of the design entitled Angeli Laudantes, originally made in 1878 for stained glass, specifically for two lancets at Salisbury Cathedral. Morris, who had long been committed to weaving, especially after moving to Merton Abbey in 1881, used the design to great effect in tapestries too, with Dearle adding the enchanting background (see Cooper 200). This is so appropriate in All Saints', a country church where (for example) wild flowers are carved on the choir stalls.
