The Epiphany

Sir Edward Burne-Jones

Manufacturer: Morris & Co.

1910

Epiphany Chapel, Winchester Cathedral, Hampshire

This is the last in a series of four installed by Morris & Co. in the Norman windows of the chapel, three of them to the designs of Burne-Jones, and one, the second (The Visitation), to John Dearle's. It matches the other windows in its setting. It is a suitable finale to the set, in the chapel fitted out for the Reverend Canon Valpy for his private devotions, and named for the epiphany (Warren 89). The text at the bottom is, "The Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising" (from Isaiah 60, 3).
