Two King Charles Spaniels with Their Pups by Richard Ansdell, RA (1815–1885). 1842. Oil on canvas. [Picture in its frame.] On display at the Walker Gallery Liverpool. Commissioned by the "celebrated Liverpool collector Joseph Mayer (1803-86)," depicting his own spaniels, Tummis and Meary, along with their two puppies. The gallery label adds that they are "grouped a little incongruously amidst a number of Mayer's antiquities." Mayer is said to have paid Ansdell £20.00 for the painting.
