Professor Scott comments that this manner of performance, which Charles Dibdin pioneered at the end of the eighteenth century, is most associated with Henry Russell.
Henry Leslie was an English composer and conductor who was much admired as a choir trainer. Although Poe spelled the title of his poem "Annabel Lee," the song-title adds an extra "le."
