Valerie Kennedy has been teaching in the department of English Language and Literature at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey since 1997, having previously taught in Kenya and Morocco. Her publications include Edward Said: A Critical Introduction, published by Polity Press in 2000, and since translated into Chinese Complex Characters, Simplified Chinese, and Korean, with a translation into Arabic in progress. "Dickens and Savagery at Home and Abroad" was published in The Dickensian in two parts in 2008. Her entry on "Orientalism" in the Oxford University Press online bibliography of Victorian Literature appeared in 2013, and an article on Conrad is forthcoming in Conradiana. She has written on a variety of nineteenth- and twentieth-century novelists including Jane Austen, Maria Edgeworth, Evelyn Waugh, V. S. Naipaul, and Salman Rushdie, as well as on Mary Kingsley and travel writing.
