Gerald Roberts, author of Gerard Manley Hopkins, a Literary Life (Macmillan, 1994) and editor of Hopkins: the Critical Heritage (Routledge, 1987), received his BA and MA from the University of Wales and an M.Phil from the University of Leeds. Now retired, he taught at Stonyhurst College and as a part-time tutor at the Open University. In addition to his work on Hopkins, he has published on the Victorian period in Studies (Dublin) and History Today (London).
