David Cooke was the Director (CEO) of The British Board of Film Classification for nearly 12 years until he retired in March 2016. Before that he was a civil servant (a career which he chose instead of pursuing a D.Phil at Oxford on Sir Robert Peel) who worked on such diverse topics as The Northern Ireland Peace Process, constitutional reform, asylum, broadcasting policy and criminal justice. His current interests include hate speech and privacy and data protection issues, and he is an enthusiastic amateur of poetry, cooking, Proust, Henry James and film aesthetics. His sporadic musings may be found on his blog LucidWitness.Wordpress.Com, and he is more than happy to be mailed on Victorian or any other matters at dcooke1927@gmail.com.
