way to make a lasting contribution.
Bequests can take many forms. Most often, a bequest is simply a clause in your will leaving to the organization a specified amount of money or a percentage of your estate, or a specific asset, such as securities, real estate, or tangible personal property.
For instance, you may designate the Victorian Web as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or a retirement plan. You may also instruct your bank or brokerage to transfer, upon your death, any residual funds from your accounts to the Victorian Web Foundation. Finally, you may wish to make what’s known as a “residual bequest,” specifying that the Foundation will receive the assets that remain after providing for your other beneficiaries.
You may wish to honor a loved one by designating the Victorian Web as the recipient of memorial gifts. If you’d like to pursue this option, simply let us know how you wish the funds to be designated and to whom we should send gift acknowledgements. We advise doing this as you prepare an obituary or other death announcement.
All gifts, no matter how large or small, are welcome. Unrestricted bequests are most useful, as they allow us to direct resources where they are most needed. If you would like your gift to be used to support a specific project or activity, it is best to consult with us ahead of time, to be sure we can carry out your wishes. In order to avoid any possible question that your bequest is to our organization, we suggest inclusion of our full legal name and our federal tax identification number in your bequest.
