- William Sturges Bourne, who had been an MP from 1802-31 and held the post of Home Secretary for a short time in 1827. He was responsible for the 1818 Regulation of Vestries Act (58 Geo. III, c. 69)
- Walter Coulson — a newspaperman, barrister and secretary to Jeremy Bentham
- Bishop John Bird Sumner (Chester) — a noted evangelical and theologian
- Nassau Senior — Professor of Political Economy at Oxford University and a zealous advocate of the total centralisation of poor relief
