- Science: Michael Faraday and the Royal Society
- Periodicals: founding of Jeremy Bentham’s Westminster Review
- Education: Manchester Mechanics’ Institute (preceded by Edinburgh, 1821 and Liverpool, Glasgow, and London in 1823)
- Social Reform: Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals established
- Births: Julia Kavanagh; Wilkie Collins; George MacDonald; Dayananda Saraswati (founder Arya Samaj); Edward Maitland; George M. Smith (Dictionary of National Biography)
- Deaths: Lord Byron; Charles Maturin; Capel Lofft; Jane Taylor
Beyond bicentenaries, Victorians welcomes submissions on all aspects of Victorian literature and culture. The journal especially welcomes work on gender and race, including a focus on non-white Victorian authors. Deadline for Winter 2024 consideration: July 15, 2024.
