THIs, the fifteenth annual exhibition of dogs, was opened on Monday week in Curzon Hall, Birmingham. The weather was tolerably fair, and the show was well attended and in every way a success. There were more than 1,000 entries, including dogs of every conceivable variety of English breed and a few specimens from foreign climes. The names and owners of the prize winners sketched by our artist are detailed beneath the engraving, we may, however, remark that the Esquimaux dog (No. 5) is of the kind used for drawing sledges, and that the owner of the champion mastiff “Taurus” (No. 6), values him at one million sterling. Of the many others which took prizes, but which are not shown in our engraving, we have no space to speak. The judges were all gentlemen of high reputation in the sporting world, and their decisions appear to have given very general satisfaction. [559]
