I seek paper proposals on “Nineteenth-Century Theatre & Early Film” for the upcoming Nineteenth-Century Studies Association conference. The NCSA conference takes place 16-19 March 2022 in Rochester, NY and revolves around the theme of “Radicalism and Reform.” Rochester is the home of the George Eastman Museum, and participants may visit this exemplary collection of early photographs and films.

In hopes of having a broad, interdisciplinary discussion, I welcome scholars of Art History, Economics, Film & Media Studies, History, Literature (English and non-English), Musicology, Philosophy, Theatre, and other disciplines. I seek speakers who might address topics that include, but are not limited to, the following:

Please submit one-page CVs and 250-word abstracts for 15-minute papers to aschmidt@csustan.edu by 23 September 2021.

I encourage submissions from graduate students. Those whose proposals have been accepted may submit complete papers to apply for a travel grant to help cover transportation and lodging expenses.
