The figures of Pope Gregory, the Anglo-Saxon King Ethelbert of Kent, Archbishop Langton and William Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester and Chancellor of England, are gathered from the early centuries of the church, as Price says, "under the kindly influence of the Holy Spirit, represented as usual by a dove descending from the topmost light."
