Early Fathers and Prophets. On the left are St Athanasius and St Anselmus or Anselm, the latter carrying his book, Cur Deus Homo, or Why God Became Man. On the right are King David with his harp, and Isaiah. The window, designed by Herbert Bryans (1855-1925), dates from the early twentieth century, and is in Lady Chapel of St Martin's Church, Low Marple, nr. Stockport. It is finely executed but notably conventional, in this respect quite different from its surroundings in the chapel, which is decorated in a more progressive and individualistic style by Christopher Whall, with fittings by Henry Wilson.
