Passage illustrated

Pushing Ellen violently aside, and dashing Filippo furiously back again upon the ground from which he was rising, the Resurrection Man darted upon Richard Markham.

In another moment there was a splash of water: a cry of horror issued from the lips of Ellen; the Resurrection Man shouted "Run! run!"—but neither the young lady nor Filippo thought of interrupting the flight of the miscreants. — Chapter 95, “The Combat,” 1.321

Commentary

The criss-crossing diagonals throughout the picture make a very effective composition, but all the faces, especially the one on the man behind the Resurrection Man, are very poorly done. — George P. Landow
