On the shore

J. W. North

1867

Wood engraving by the Dalziels

6½ x 5 inches

Illustration for Wayside Posies, p.18.

One of North's representation of the coast, the image typically combines an intense observation of the natural world (especially in the form of the moonlit sea) and social commentary, this time represented by the figures carrying a basket of fish.
