Cleopatra
Kenny Meadows, artist
J. Brown, engraver
1839
Source: The Complete Works of Shakspeare [sic], I, 438.
Illustration for Anthony and Cleopatra
The artist’s name appears beneath the engraving at lower left, the engraver’s at lower right.
Cleopatra, unlike most of Meadow’s work for the three-volume Shakespeare, is one of the many portraits of women in the plays, some of which, such as those by Augustus Egg, reproduced oil paintings.
