. Artist: Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. Engraver: unknown. Source:Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens: Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn. [Ruth 2: 8-9; King James Bible]
The version of this plate that appeared in the 1851 Art-Journal (see link below) has several differences, the most important of which are that Ruth does not wear a hat, and Boaz does not hold a short staff. In addition, the man working in the field is missing as are both a clump of vegetation in the foreground beneath Ruth and Boaz and the sandals on the man behind Boaz. On the other hand, the earlier version has three well defined buildings at the upper left whereas those in the newer engraving are darker and slightly different.
