Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities

The twenty-sixth installment of the novel appeared in Harper's Weekly (29 October 1859): 701-702; it had originally appeared in the UK on Saturday, 22 October in All the Year Round.

This illustration depicts Mr. Lorry and Jerry Cruncher, positioned as they are as chapter begins. The action has shifted to revlutionary Paris, where Charles Darnay (otherwise, "The Marquis de St. Evrémnde") is now in grave danger.
