Framed embroidery

Miss Ethel Vigrass

Lady Wardle's School of Embroidery for Young Ladies

circa 1895

Displayed in St Edward the Confessor, Leek

Staffordshire

This is a fine example of work from the Leek School, in a design that could be used in secular as well as religious contexts. Where gold thread on silk was used, however, the purpose was likely to have been ecclesiastical.
