According to the Tile Gazeteer — Wales, "On the three steps leading to the high altar in the choir of St David’s Cathedral is one of the best surviving medieval tile pavements in Wales. Some of these sixteenth century tiles were relaid during George Gilbert Scott’s restoration of the Cathedral in the 1860s, but others remain in situ; all were made in the Severn Valley, many probably originating at a kiln in the Worcester area. The designs were copied by Godwin’s for the extensive (and still extant) encaustic tile pavement installed in the Cathedral as part of Scott’s restoration work."
