This prize for excellence in ‘Mechanical Drawing’ was awarded by a technical training school. The Latin inscription suggests a reverence for learning; the reward, as usual, is an inexpensive gift book. The pencilled price of £8, entered on the label by a bookseller, shows how little such certificates are valued in the book trade.
