Hereford Cathedral from Castle Green

Hereford Cathedral from Castle Green — restored by George Gilbert Scott and others, 1857-63. Photochrom print c. 1890-1900 from the Detroit Publishing Company, 1905. The restoration of this church, which dates back to the eleventh century, began in 1841 "under the Cottinghams, father and son," but after the son died in 1857, Scott took over, restoring the choir to which he added the famous Hereford Screen. John Oldrid Scott restored the west front, 1902-08 (Wikipedia). [Click on image to enlarge it.]
