Referring to the belief that these houses were built to E. W. Pugin's designs, Catriona Blaker writes, "Their use of brickwork, massive construction and rugged appearance certainly makes this seem likely." The brickwork patterning down the sides of the front doors and second storey windows is curious, and adds a typical touch of showmanship. Other details such as the gables, dormers, and feature "approaches" also support the attribution here.
