Two views of Christchurch, a Dutch Reformed Church dating from 1783. The Melaka preservation authorities have, somewhat eccentrically, painted all historical edifices brick red to suggest the similarly tinted red laterite stone.

Left: The Roman Catholic St. Francis Xavier Church, named in honor of the missionary to the east, who died in Malacca. This building in a simplified Eastlake gothic style was erected in 1845. We didn't stop to look inside, since a wedding was either in progress or about to begin. Right: The Historical Plaque for St. Peter’s Church.
