St. Albans Cathedral and Abbey Church, Hertfordshire. Date of original church on the site, unknown. First built as an abbey church, King Offa of Mercia, 793. Rebuilt, Paul de Caen, 1077-1115. Extended, late 12c. Renovated, early 14c. Repaired under Sir George Gilbert Scott, 1856-1877. Fronts rebuilt and further restoration, Lord Grimthorpe, 1880-1893.
