“This drawing is a study for one of the painted tiles in the Grill-Room of the Victoria & Albert Museum. This scheme was first discussed in 1866, but not finished by the time the rooms opened in 1868. Between 1869 and 1871 Poynter drew designs for twelve panels representing the months of the year, four of the seasons, and a series of roundels representing mythological subjects” (Rupert Maas).
