Soldier: Memorial Window to Captain David Wallace Holliday (1923-1944)

Designer: Leonard Walker (1877-1964)

1946

South aisle of Holy Trinity, Northwood, Greater London

The window is dedicated to the memory of a young captain in the King's Royal Rifles, a long time after the Victorian period, but of interest to Victorianists because Leonard Walker, who studied the St. John's Wood Art School, London, had started producing stained glass in the 1890s, at the end of the Victorian period. His hallmark was the use of uneven slab glass to create "lustrous effect and many subtle colour variations" ("Summary"), and that is what gives the dynamic effect here.
