Lantéri had "a rare genius for teaching," says I. G. McAllister, in that he understood, encouraged and promoted the individual's own strengths: "He sees to the heart of the work, and the magnitude, or otherwise, of a student's efforts, and no real merit escapes him however inadequately expressed (91-92). In the case of Jagger himself, Lantéri went on to help him”= by making him his studio assistant, and putting him in the way of some teaching at the Lambeth School of Art (Compton 18). Jagger found his years with Lantéri invaluable, and showed his gratitude in this fine likeness of him. McAllister calls it "a subtle living presentment" (96).
