Quartern-loaf : a traditional English unit of weight for bread. A quartern-loaf is made from a quartern of flour, equal to 1/4 stone, 3.5 pounds, or about 1.5876 kilogrammes. The finished loaf usually weighs about 4 pounds (1.81 kilograms); as a result a quartern is sometimes described as a weight of 4 pounds.
