“In the category of ecclesiastics we may rank Dr. Friedländer, the erudite Principal of Jews' College. He is not, so far as office is concerned, a Rabbi, but the institution over which he presides is an Anglo-Jewish Seminary, the Alma Mater of many distinguished Jewish preachers, and the nursery of the Jewish pastors of the future. Dr. Friedländer is regarded as the most learned Jew in England. Besides doing very excellent work at Jews' College, he has produced several contributions to Hebrew and theological literature, including a translation of “The Guide to the Perplexed" of Maimonides” (604).
