The Opening of London Bridge by William IV, 1 August 1831 by Clarkson Stanfield. Oil on canvas, 71 x 91 cm. Collection: Guildhall Art Gallery, London. Reproduced courtesy of the City of London Corporation. [Click on image to enlarge it.]

According to Dr Pieter van der Merwe, General Editor and Greenwich Curator, Royal Museums Greenwich, this painting, which may not be by Stanfield, is very different from the one the artist painted for King William IV, which remains in the Royal Collection. That picture was engraved for the 1858 Art Journal. See The Spectacular Career), pp. 109-110.
