Adrian Lipscomb is a retired lawyer and a geographer. He is the great grandson of the war artist, William Simpson, and William’s wife, the noted portrait miniaturist, Maria Eliza Simpson (nee Burt).
In the 1980s Adrian worked for the Australian Department of Defence in Canberra as a Policy Analyst and Intelligence Officer. In 1994-96 he was appointed Tourism Advisor to the Western Province of the Solomon Islands under the auspices of Australian Volunteers International (AVI — the Australian equivalent of the American Peace Corps). In 1997 he lectured in Tourism at Southern Cross University in Coffs Harbour, Australia. In 1998 he researched and wrote the Lonely Planet Guide to Papua New Guinea. He practised criminal law in Australia until his retirement in 2011, and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2015.
