The Swedish-born but naturalised British artist and author, Anthony Rubens Montalba (1812-1884), and his British wife, Emeline, née Davies, had four remarkable daughters: Clara Frederica Montalba (1840-1929), Ellen Emiline (1842-1930), Hilda (1845-1919), and Henrietta Mary Ann Skerrett (1848-1893). The youngest (and sadly the shortest-lived), Henrietta, achieved considerable success as a sculptor. Her elder sisters, of whom Clara was probably the best known, were all talented painters.
