‘Suspicion’ is engraved from an exquisite little drawing in water-colours, forming one of the series of plates published by Messrs. H. Graves & Co. in their work called “The Forest.” . . . . The title ‘Suspicion’ is quite appropriate to the sentiment of the form of a composition; most of the animals have raised their heads, and are on the look-out for an approaching enemy, probably in the for of a deerstalker with his dogs: the stag on the brow of the hill acts as the sentinel, and has probably sounded a note of alarm to his companions. It is a gem of a picture. [131]
