Georgina Koberwein Terrell (1856-1939)

Engraved by Messrs. Goupil

1888 (signed and dated in the lower right corner)

Atalanta, December 1888, frontispiece

The girl portrayed by Koberwein Terrell (as she signed herself now) is distinctly upper class in her attire and the very model of youthful femininity, closely associated with springtime in nature. This made the painting an ideal choice for engraving as a frontispiece for an issue of Atalanta. The monthly magazine, a successor to Every Girl's Magazine, provided its youthful readership with high quality reading material by known authors, but could still be rather conservative in its outlook. — Jacqueline Banerjee.
