The New Frock

Artist: William Powell Frith (1819-1909)

1889

Oil on canvas

H 92 x W. 72 cm.

Lady Lever Art Gallery

Accession no. LL 3419

Transferred from Lord Leverhulme's private collection, 1922

This painting was used in Sunlight Soap advertisments, without permission from the artist (who had, however, sold Lever Brothers the copyright). This was rather like Millais's experience with his painting Bubbles and Pears Soap, although in that case Millais himself accepted the use. — Jacqueline Banerjee
