The second child of the artist and his wife Edith Mary Collingwood, Barbara became a sculptor, and married the civil engineer and early aviator Oscar Gnosspelius. The subtle palette here of brown, yellow and white, and the tightly held daffodils, combined with her meditative expression, situate the little girl as a child of nature in the true Lakeland tradition.
