Pennsylvania Railroad No. 3936 DD-1. Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Strasbourg, Pennsylvania. According to the Museum Web site, Juniata built these two DD1 electric locomotives for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1911. Together they stretch 64 feet and 11 inches long and weigh 328,400 pounds. According to Wikipedia, the two engines — a “married pair” — “operated in the tunnels beneath the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City until being relegated to yard work in 1924.” The “only surviving locomotives of its class. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.” [Click on images to enlarge them.]
