The Good Wife
Ward and Hughes
Designer: T. F. Curtis
Church of St Margaret, Bodelwyddan
Clwyd, N. Wales
This seems to be a touchingly personal tribute, probably depicting Elinor Harriet Williams (to whom the window is dedicated by her husband and brother) with family members. The "good wife" has a babe-in-arms and a little boy beside her. Other children stand on the left, and villagers (a labourer with a spade and a shepherd with his crook, and lambs) on the right. A church spire can be seen among the trees here. Angels in the tracery display texts: the one most clearly seen here is "This women was full of good works," divided between the first pair of angels. Below, obscured here, are more angels with texts: "Her children arise up and call her blessed" and "Her husband also and he praiseth her" (see Crampin). [Mouse over the text below for links.]
