Mary Magdalene and the Risen Christ, by Edward Arthur Fellowes Prynne

Mary Magdalene and the Risen Christ

E. A. Fellowes Prynne (1854-1921)

Executed by James Jennings

1912

West end of the north aisle

St Peter's Church, Laleham Road, Staines, Surrey

A memorial window like the one in the south aisle opposite it, this was installed in memory of the parents of Lady Clarke, the founder's wife (see Taylor, Souvenir, 15). The two lights depict the well-known episode in which the risen Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene outside the empty sepulchre. The text below is from John 20, v.16: "Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master." As usual, Prynne attends closely both to costume and the natural scene, and shows angels' faces in the tracery.
