St Chad of Lichfield
Artist: Alfred Fisher
Maker: James Powell & Sons
North aisle, Holy Trinity, Northwood
1972
It is interesting to see how this long-established company modernised its designs, getting a more spiky, angular look, before it finally closed down in 1980. By then, designer Alfred Fisher had moved on, founding Chapel Studio in 1973 with Peter Archer, so that the skills acquired over so many years at the Whitefriars company were not lost. Here, Fisher shows St Chad with Lichfield Cathedral in the background, and another church above, in memory of Rev. Cecil George Cumnor Walker, "for 43 years Vicar of this parish, and Dorothy his wife."
