Thomson was a fine topographical artist, who illustrated a number of other books in this series, including Kent, but some much further afield, like Northumbria.
"Kingston church, if its architecture is confused and much of it modern, has an imposing solemnity about it" (Parker 246). It is not as easy to see the church from this viewpoint now, because of new structures in the market place opposite it.
